What is Night Fire?

Night First Drum Line is a non-profit percussion ensemble that incorporates both musical and visual components to create high energy performances at basketball half-times and Minnesota Percussion Association competitions. It is composed of young adults from the ages of 14-21.

What type of commitment is involved?

Our program is divided into two seasons. Students can participate in only one season, or both. During winter season Night Fire generally rehearses one night a week for 3 hours, and holds one weekend rehearsal per month from October through December. After Christmas rehearsals continue weekly with one or two weekend rehearsals to prepare for performances which typically begin in February and continue until the end of March.
Summer season typically begins the end of May and runs through the first half of August. Rehearsals are generally once a week for 3 hours. During the summer Night Fire performs in numerous parades throughout the region.
We expect our students to attend regularly scheduled rehearsals, memorize music and drill, attend performances and competitions, and participate in group fundraising activities.

Where do you rehearse?

Our weekly winter rehearsals are held at West Fargo High School, weekend rehearsals are held at NDSU's Reineke Fine Arts Center. Night Fire Drum Line PerformanceAfter Christmas we rehearse at Our Redeemer Church in Moorhead.

How much does it cost?

Our program is divided into two seasons. Our winter season begins in October and runs through the end of March. Dues of $200 are collected to cover the cost of equipment, equipment maintenance and travel. Students are also responsible for purchasing a pair of white pants and white marching shoes. Shoes are ordered through Night Fire for a cost of $30.00.
Our summer season begins in May. Dues for the summer season are $100. Other costs are the same as above.
We also strongly recommend that each of our students purchases a pair of marching sticks, a drum pad, and a metronome to practice with.
