Membership in the Night Fire Drum Line is open to young adults between the ages of 14-21. Students are selected on the basis of talent, personal attitude, and desire to learn and perform. While many of our members have played percussion before joining, we have students who have never played percussion as well as some who have never played a musical instrument before becoming a member.
As a Member, you will become more proficient in the techniques of drumming — and are surrounded by others dedicated on working together as a team to create a quality, high-energy performance. Close friendships result from the teamwork, dedication, competitions, and travel when working and playing with others toward a common goal.
Members can participate in one or both of the Summer and Winter programs. The Summer program group performs at parades throughout the region. Rehearsals and performances begin the end of May and runs through the first half of August. The Winter program begins in October, culminating with MPA competitions in February that run through the end of March.
Rehearsals are usually one night per week with one or two weekend rehearsals to prepare for performances and competitions. Membership requires a commitment — all members are expected to attend scheduled rehearsals, memorize music and drill, attend performances and competitions, and participate in group fundraising activities.
Membership dues cover the cost of equipment, equipment maintenance, travel and other operating expenses and range between $100.00 - $200.00 based on season of participation. Students are also responsible for purchasing a pair of white pants and white marching shoes. (Shoes are ordered through Night Fire for a cost of $30.00.)
